Heinz Gross graduated at ETH Zürich and received his Ph.D in 1977 from ETH Zürich (Dept. D-BIOL) awarded with a silver-medal on ultrahigh resolving metal coating and replica technique at -196°C for replica of biological freeze-fractured samples. His expertise lies in the field of sample preparation of isolated bio-macromolecules for TEM and STM and high-resolution metal coating techniques for TEM and SEM. In a project together with Bal-Tec Heinz Gross developed a UHV-15K electron beam metal coating system and in a cooperation with Philips an in-situ cryo-preparation chamber for a CM12. Heinz Gross is also a lecturer at EMEZ.
