EMEZ Mission Statement

EMEZ is an interdisciplinary facility of ETH Zurich providing resources for scientific research of materials using dedicated electron beams. Both, man-made and natural materials, including biological specimens, are characterized on the micro- and nano scales.

The strength of EMEZ is its interdisciplinarity with a pronounced competence in sample preparation for dedicated electron microscopic characterization. EMEZ operates as part of the central facilities of ETH Zurich and is located in Zurich at the ETH Hönggerberg campus.

Its role is to support vital research efforts and services for EMEZ and ETH members and visiting researchers as well as industry. A resident scientific and technical staff supports researchers and the facility equipment. In addition they provide valuable guidance to users and researchers. EMEZ scientists are involved in teaching and education of students from ETH and currently conduct no own research. The centre is governed by a head and an independent interdisciplinary board. An internal Steering Committee acts as an advisory capacity and has a final approval authority for all major proposed research and services.
